spring decor refresh!

Happy spring everyone!!! The warmer weather here in Iowa has had me in such a better mood and feeling inspired to update some neglected space in our lower level. They were simply missing a cohesive springy vibe! I waited until the beginning of February to take down all of our Christmas decor and then threw some random pieces back in those spots so it wasn't empty. But every time I'd walk past those areas I pretty much hated how it looked and wasn't feeling inspired enough to add the special Megan touch! Now that all the spring decor has been making it's debut in stores, I definitely wanted to get out of the house and check it out!

Before I did that though, I made a couple of mood boards for the spaces I wanted to do a spring decor refresh on....it's good to have a plan when you head out so you spend less time wondering what will make sense together! I went to a lot of stores, but was able to go quick since I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted.

FYI - when I make any graphics, I use Canva.com which is what I used to make these mood boards!

Floating Shelves Mood Board:

The Before:

***disclaimer: we have to repaint our entire basement because of a paint matching issue, so if it looks weird, that's because it DOES look weird :)

Here's what I purchased:

Because the frames ended up taking up more space than I had thought - I didn't really need to add anything else to the shelves (in my opinion). I do have a couple things added onto them right now, but once my art comes in that will help me determine how busy it looks and if all the colors are matching. Plus, having all these frames is a statement on it's own!

I'm SUPER excited about the art I ordered from Minted.com ! I've always loved Minted and all the options they have on their site, so I knew this was going to be the perfect first project to order some art prints! In order to decide what prints I wanted to order, I created a bunch of different collages and then shared those in my Instagram stories this past weekend and had y'all vote! This ended up being the popular vote and I honestly loved it too! I plan to share another blog post with all my favorite Minted art (coming soon).

The winning collage of Minted art!

Moving onto our next spring decor refresh....my favorite furniture buffet I got from Homegoods last year!

Living Room Buffet Mood Board:

The Before:

**again, this was a quick thrown together "look" if you can even call it that, after I took down Christmas decor. Nothing really went together and there was definitely not a theme or style I had. Keep reading, because I LOVE how this turned out!

The After:

Here's what I purchased:

- marble bunny from TJ Maxx - no link

- large marble tray from Mix Home Mercantile - no link

- black tapered candle holders from Hobby Lobby - no link

- ceramic cabbage flower decor from Hobby Lobby - no link

- lamps no longer available for purchase from Target

- buffet purchased from Homegoods

- large gold arch mirror purchased at a local antique shop

Overall it was a fun weekend putting these looks together and spreading the prettiest colored tulips all over my house! If flowers or tulips don't shout SPRING, then I don't know what does! Flowers truly do make me happy and being creative in my home makes me even happier! If you ever want to see more of my decorating process, follow along with me in my stories on instagram @thedarlingroad! I've been enjoying taking you along with me as I shop or just share things I find and like! And then of course showing you how I style them at home. I'll be sharing another blog post of the finished shelves once my Minted art comes in...I can't wait!
