valentine dessert board

Since we are still spending a lot of time at home right now and it's negative degrees outside, I decided to make my first dessert board! It's just the two of us at home, but why not go all out!? We both actually love charcuterie boards and trying new cheese's so I knew this would be a hit (for Jeff haha)! What a great reason to raid Trader Joe's and try out some new sweet treats for Valentine's Day!

These items are perfect to mix and match together for color, texture, shape and flavor! Those are always things I think about when shopping and making any kind of a charcuterie board. I like to have color contrast and always include a fruit or vegetable of some kind in addition to the stars of the show, which in this case are the sweets! We will SLOWLY be munching on this over the weekend....

* Oval platter linked here

* Marble star coasters - I purchased mine at Beno's Flowers + Gifts, but If you can't make it there I found the same ones linked here

* Heart shaped bowls - I purchased mine last year from Crate + Barrel but they are not in stock anymore, so I found these really cute pink heart shaped ramekins from amazon, linked here

Here are the items I used to make my dessert board

Target:

- circus animal cookies

- double stuff oreo cookies

- madeleine's

Trader Joe's:

- raspberries + strawberries

- shortbread apricot + raspberry cookies

- dark chocolate covered mini pretzels

- fleur de sel caramels

- smore's bites

- crispy cookies filled with belgian chocolate

- belgian dark chocolate non-pareils

When putting this together I was thinking most about spacing the colors I had apart: chocolate, pinks, whites, and red. Making sure as I put the desserts on the plate that they were next to a contrasting color so it's pleasing to the eye and looks as delicious as possible.

I also wanted to add a heart shaped element, so putting some smaller items in heart dishes I already had really emphasized valentine to me! I think this board is perfect for adults and kids. It definitely offers something for everyone and I think would be an easy way to checkmark dessert off your list when hosting others at your home!

If you end up making a dessert board, I would love it if you tagged me on Instagram @thedarlingroad! Happy Valentine's Day to you all!
